It’s officially the start of summer. For some people, such as teachers, summer is a good time to up-ramp infertility treatment. There are no classrooms to get to, and no regimented schedules to keep. (Good luck, teachers! You rock!). For others, summer is a time to kick back and take vacation, but is there ever a good time to take a vacation from infertility treatment?
For many patients, especially those who have been trying to conceive for a long time, the short answer is, probably yes. Getting off the infertility-treatment rollercoaster for a few short months can provide emotional relief and allow your system to recharge. A break from daily sonos, needles, and on-demand sex can also provide the breathing room needed to let you think more clearly about next steps.
While we’ve already given up on the “just take a vacation and you’ll get pregnant” myth (if only), data does indicate that stress, and the hormones it generates such as cortisol, can have a fertility-busting effect.
If you’re worried about the never-ending ticking of your biological clock, we get it. The general rule of thumb is, the more advanced your age, the less time you have to take a break. However, a month or two typically won’t make a difference. If you’re in doubt, reach out to the specialists on our app, and ask them for the 411 on your specific situation.
Whether you’re taking a beach break or continuing to try, we are here for you. Reach out anytime, and happy summer to all!
